A Proper Macchiato

Stuff Makes You Go MMMTroy Musto

Ordering a cortado then a macchiato and noticing the subtlties between each drink isn’t for every coffee shop and certainly not for many baristas. That isn’t the case at WinWin as you see, my barista served up two perfect examples each! On my coffee shop scale WinWin is a total WIN! But honestly there are so many ways to make these drinks, it’s like a really good bartender knowing about the subtlties.

A cortado is a beverage that consists ofespresso coffee mixed with a small amount of warm milk to reduce the acidity.[1] The wordcortado is the past participle of the Spanish verb cortar (to cut), in the sense of “dilute”. Cortado is a well known drink in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.

Caffè macchiato is an espresso coffee drink with a small amount of milk, usually foamed. In Italian, macchiato means “stained” or “spotted” so the literal translation of caffè macchiato is “stained coffee”, or coffee with a spot of milk.

And really after reading this I’m still left like… huh? That didn’t explain anything. The point is, find yourself a good coffee shop!
